commissions

I undertake quite a few commissions, both through galleries that I show with, and directly. If you are interested, please drop me a line sandymdooley@gmail.com

This is normally how I work things.
I will ask a few questions, and have a constructive chat about the sort of painting a new client would like.
It's great to get a photo of where the painting might hang. Ideas for colours and dimensions of the painting  will come from that. If not, then an idea of the kind of space they have is really handy and a few tips about which of my paintings they like. This gives me a feeling for the finished piece.
Then a discussion based on my and my clients initial thoughts.  A discussion about colours is really important!  (pink or yellow maybe beautiful for some people, and beyond horrible for others) Size of painting is obviously crucial. Price is also discussed.

Then I go away and paint... normally a commission would take me a month or three weeks. If it's more urgent, let me know.

When the painting is finished I will send a photo, normally via email. Any changes? I'm really happy to change things around on the painting, no problem!

Take a look at the example below, let me know what you think.

2011

Painting for Bridget
120x80cm
acrylic on canvas

I have really enjoyed this commission. I was sent some great photos of my clients garden and the room where the painting will hang. Visualising where a painting will hang is really useful! Hopefully I won't include any colours which will work badly in the space.

Winter Pink
80x80cm
acrylic on canvas

This painting was made for some friends who are also existing clients. This piece is for their bedroom, the vibrant colours are key. They loved Winter Pinks.

Lake View
100x100cm
acrylic on canvas

These clients sent me photos of their lovely garden. I chose a spot and took a few more pics after visiting, this is the result of that.

Untitled
200x100cm
acrylic on canvas

This piece was destined for an office, it is one of the larger paintings I have done at 200x100cm. The bottom photo shows the painting in situ in my clients office meeting room.

Green garden
90x90cm
acrylic on canvas

This one was done through an art gallery. The gallery owner contacted me, and I completed the painting and delivered it to the gallery.

2010

Green Bank
40x120cm
acrylic on canvas

Painting for Zoe
160x80cm
acrylic on canvas

This is a client who has bought work from me in the past. It was a real privilege to complete this painting for her kitchen/dining area. The size was perfect. I delivered the painting by car (it only just fitted in my estate car!!)

Green and Yellow Border
40x120cm
acrylic on canvas

This painting was a birthday present. I had the brief from a husband, and delivered the completed piece myself to his workplace. Sometimes I have to be sneaky...especially around Christmas.

Trees
120x150cm
acrylic on canvas

the clients who bought this paintings have had several paintings from me in the past. They have a small painting of mine called 'Five Trees' and wanted a scaled up version with some different colour accents. I enjoyed doing this painting, it was a bit of a challenge too....scaling up from 30x30cm to 120x150cm was fun!!
